Hello again!
This summer I am working at Caramoor, Center for Music and the Arts in Westchester, NY.
Caramoor is a beautiful garden. The grounds used to be owned by the Rosens, a wealthy family in the early part of the 1900s, who loved antiques for their beauty and built a Spanish-style summer house in “the country.” Now a non-profit, Caramoor carries on the family’s tradition of summer music festivals, featuring all kinds of music! This season there are operas, Sonidos Latinos (a series of Latin concerts), Bela Fleck (July 3rd), a July 4th fireworks & Pops music Spectacular, a two-day Jazz event (August 1st and 2nd), string quartets, soloists, and family programs, to name a few! It’s really exciting, as every week will be different.

So what am I actually doing? I am interning in Development, my job is just to help out everyone. I like working at Caramoor because it’s a small office, so I’ve been able to get to know everyone. Last year I worked in the box office selling tickets, but I really wanted to learn a little more how non-profits work. Since I am very strongly oriented towards the arts I wanted to work somewhere that would fit my interests. I’m learning a lot through this internship, about fundraising and generally what it’s like to work in Development.
The summer Festival starts with Opening Night Gala on June 27th (I’ve already picked out my dress). There will be concerts from Wednesday through Sunday until August. If you live in the Westchester area you should come and check out a concert. I’ll be working!!!
I will update once concerts start and let you know how Gala goes…
