Hello Everyone and thanks for reading the Binghamton University Admissions Blog! My name is Nick Wan and I am a Freshman here at Binghamton University. I am a political science major and have enjoyed the first week of classes. I truly believe that by reading these blogs, you can learn from each students’ unique perspective on Binghamton University and all it has to offer. I have lived in Binghamton my entire life, but the University is an entirely different experience. While they are many things to be excited about, the most exciting part of this new transition in my life is meeting new people. While I do see familiar faces around campus, it is always refreshing to meet different students and form new relationships. I am part of the Hinman Learning Community, which has linked my political science and english courses, and has really provided a special bond amongst my classmates. I truly look forward to class everyday because it provides me with new opportunities to learn about my classmates. I am truly excited to see what the new school year brings and cannot wait to meet new challenges. Thanks again for reading!

Hi!
My name is Jessica and I’m a freshman at Binghamton University. I am currently undecided but I’m thinking about majoring in business. I plan on joining the Binghamton Paintball Federation and Rotaract, a community service organization. I’m also in the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. My hobbies include hanging out with the best suitemates ever and going shopping. I chose Binghamton because I heard it was one of the best school’s in the nation and I was eager to become involved in its many opportunites. Binghamton is the right fit for me because as an undecided student, I am confident about its endless opportunities. I am given the chance to explore different courses and see what I really want to study in the long run. Although I’ve only been here for about two weeks, my favorite things about Binghamton are the friendly people, the helpful professors, and the diversity on campus.

Hi all! I’m Sarah. I’m a freshmen here at Binghamton. I’m a member of the Scholars Program, which I’ve found very interesting and enjoyable so far. I’m majoring in Human Development, which is related to psychology. I’m not exactly sure what I want to do career wise, but I’m leaning toward counseling. I just recently attended my first meeting for The College Democrats, so we’ll see how that works out for me. I’m planning on being involved in a few other extracurricular activities but I’m not sure which ones yet. I’m also interesting in volunteering around campus and the Binghamton area. For my Scholars class, I’m helping make a documentary about homelessness in Broome County. So, that’s as far as I’ve gotten with community service as of now, but I’m keeping my eyes open for other opportunities. So far, my favorite thing about Binghamton University is the people here. I’m shy and was very nervous about making friends but the people here are friendly and it was much easier than I expected to make new friends. Binghamton has a lot to do to keep busy which has really helped me make my transition into college easy and fun. I was nervous about classes because I wasn’t sure what to expect at all, but so far my classes are interesting and all my professors are willing to help out students. In conclusion, my first week at Binghamton was great and I’m looking forward to discovering everything that Binghamton has to offer me.

Meet Lauren, a freshman majoring in Political Science, and excited to share some experiences about college life.
Hello Everyone!
I am Lauren, a freshman here in Harpur College, and currently a Political Science major. Although I am not positive about the career path I want to take, right now I want to be either an International or Environmental lawyer. I am getting involved with the Model UN club and possibly the Democratic club. I also love to swim so I will be on the Swim Club as well. There are lots of ways to get involved in something you are interested in. I think it is important to have a good balance of schoolwork and enjoyable activities. Besides getting to know me a little I want to share a few of my experiences. I think I was nervous about a lot of the same things as other freshman such as, how to deal with challenging courses, living with new people, making friends, and just adjusting to a new lifestyle. Everything is going much better than I anticipated. While my classes will be demanding, I find most of the professors engaging and willing to help out any way they can. Living with new people is different but I found most people very considerate and friendly. Remember that all freshman are on the same level and want to make friends. As for living on your own it just takes responsibility. I hope this gives you an idea of the beginning of freshman year at Binghamton and you’ll consider joining the undergraduates here!

Hello reader of the Binghamton Blog! Nice to meet you. I’m Sam. Well first things first: I’m a freshman here at Binghamton University interested in becoming a music major and I could not be more thrilled to begin the school year! That’s probably not something you hear a lot of students saying nowadays, right? Well, maybe that holds true for other universities but I know that during my first week at Binghamton, all my classes were informative, had truly unique professors dedicated to their subject, and were healthy and studious environments.
It was interesting because what I thought would be an intimidating experience – like the 300+ person lecture I was dreading – actually turned out to be one of my favorite classes. When you have a professor who can explain the most complicated political process in a way that a six-year-old could understand, then you know you’ll have a good semester.
Another fear of mine before I arrived at Binghamton was that coming here without knowing anyone would prohibit me from making friends. How exactly did one make friends at college? Was there a certain process? Now looking back at those old worries almost makes me laugh. Making friends at Binghamton was one of the easiest, most natural things I’ve ever done. I’m not saying I’m a friend machine and I’m instantly friends with everyone—it’s just that for some reason, everyone at Binghamton is so friendly and warm! Really! Don’t believe me? Come find out for yourself.

Hey everyone! My name is Alex and I am a freshman at Binghamton University. Although I was apprehensive and nervous before coming to college, those feelings have quickly morphed into ones of sheer happiness and excitement.
After living at Binghamton for a little over a week now, I have sat through classes and made new friends. The people here are so nice, and I continue to meet new people everyday. Although some classes involve lectures with over 400 students, there are smaller discussion sections as well as other classes that have 20-30 students at the most to enhance the learning environment. I am involved in the Hinman learning community, and am taking English 117E, “Consumerism, Image, and Empire” linked with Political Science 111, “Intro to American Politics” as well as a 1 credit course in community service and leadership. I am excited to explore the many volunteer opportunities Binghamton has to offer and I know that this class will help me get started. I am currently an undeclared major and am taking a variety of classes to find out what I would eventually like to focus on. Binghamton has so many possible majors and a ton of extracurricular activities so it is very easy to stay busy. The best thing about Binghamton is that I can make the experience anything I want it to be. I look forward to continuing this journey and discovering everything that Binghamton University has to offer!
